Numerical experiments are given for finite element approximations and iterative algorithms in the case of a nonlinear elliptic equation in a polygon and the unit square. Special attention is paid to the case of a semilinear system in cylindrical coordinates. This system is considered as a model for some axially symmetric plasma equilibrium problems; they involve the location of the free boundary.
