This interesting paper addresses the numerical difficulty associated to near-boundary potential and potential gradient computations in the boundary element method. The scalar Helmholtz equation is discussed and the author adopts internal and external boundary integral equations, in combination, to produce a final weakly singular integral representation for the near-boundary solution computation. A spherical boundary with different boundary conditions is analyzed to illustrate the benefits of the procedure.
