Alternating direction difference schemes for solving parabolic initial-boundary value problems of second order in two-dimensional domains are discussed. Especially, three different splittings of the elliptic part of the differential operator are proposed. For the resulting difference schemes the unconditional stability and the accuracy are proved. Finally, some numerical experiments are presented.
