This paper is concerned with the orders of embedded continuous explicit Runge-Kutta methods. New lower bounds on the numbers of stages required for a sequence of continuous methods of increasing orders are obtained. The main result establishes that for continuous methods of order \(p> 1\) at least \(2p- 2\) stages are required in each step, regardless of any singular structure among the parameters of the method.
