The authors suggest a method of identification for accurate calculating the mass, damping, and stiffness matrices of a linear dynamical system from incomplete experimental complex modes and complex eigenvalues. The method is based on the well-known fact that the dynamic characteristics of complicated vibrating systems are determined, as a rule, by a few modal shapes. In general, the matrix systems are nonlinearly related to the design vector. In order to linearize the problem, the Taylor expansion and the least squares method with an iterative procedure are employed. For the linear relation between the matrix system and the design variables, the identification requires only one step of calculation.
