In the second variation of the strain energy of a thin ring-shaped plate under uniform in-plane shear, the out-of-plane displacements are approximated by double Fourier series. In order to determine the Fourier coefficients, the integrals are evaluated numerically for certain combinations of half-waves in radial and circumferential direction. The application to joints is demonstrated through one simple example.
