    The stability of a clamped-free elastic column, loaded by a concentrated force of follower type at the free end, is investigated. It is assumed that the column is resting on an elastic foundation of Winkler type. Also, small internal damping and viscous damping in the elastic foundation are introduced. It is concluded that the presence of small amount of internal damping drastically reduces the critical flatter load, while the flatter load is insensitive to change of the properties of elastic foundation.
