The authors prove and investigate the consistency criterion and the structure of a general solution of a simultaneous pair of linear matrix equations (LME) over a numerical field \[ A_1 XB_1 = C_1, \quad A_2 XB_2 = C_2. \tag{1} \] They continue the investigations of individual LME of this and other types considered by \textit{C. R. Rao} and \textit{S. K. Mitra} [Generalized inverse of matrices and its applications (1971; Zbl 0236.15004)] on the base of the machinery of generalized inversion of matrices.
