We investigate the stability of a solitary wave suffering from some perturbations during propagation through an optical medium. It is shown that the solitary wave solution may be stable in the normal GVD region under the perturbations of ``white noise'' and transverse modulation, of which the spatial modulation frequency is below its ``critical frequency'' and is generally unstable in the anomalous GVD region.
