A construction for sphere packings is performed, in a way similar to the one used for the ``anticode'' construction for codes. This, among others, makes possible an appropriate answer to a question raised by \textit{A. Vardy} [Invent. Math. 121, No. 1, 119-133 (1995; Zbl 0829.52012)].
