The authors consider solutions of Maxwell's equations for an axially symmetrical medium with variable dielectric constant and constant permeability when initial values of electric and magnetic fields are given. It is assumed that the initial fields, and the electric and magnetic currents vanish outside a specified sphere. They construct a uniform time grid, and non uniform space grids for spherical polar coordinates and develop the relevant radiation conditions over a large sphere of indefinite radius. An indication of the error involved in the numerical solution is given.
