This paper treats the convection-diffusion equation \(\partial_t u+v \partial_y u= \partial_x (k \partial_x u)\) on a domain in which the velocity \(v\) has a change in sign. The author proposes an alternating direction implicit method based on implicit upwind differencing for the convection term and the backward Euler method for the diffusion term.
