Variational approach to a problem on the non-steady rolling process (Q1911095)

The non-steady state problem of rolling is considered assuming material to be strain and strain-rate dependent, and slightly compressible. On the roll-workpiece interface a nonlinear Siebel's type friction law is accepted to hold. Variational formulations of the original problem and of an approximated one are proposed. Existence and uniqueness results for the approximated problem are obtained, and the convergence to the original problem is proved.
