This excellent paper is concerned with bubbling phenomena for evolution towards a harmonic map between a closed Riemann surface and a closed Riemann manifold \(N\). The authors' main results concern key energy identities of the sort obtained by \textit{J. Qing} [ibid. 3, No. 2, 297-315 (1995)] in the case \(N= S^n\).
