The term ``triangle plane'' in the title means a plane in which a triangle ABC is singled out. The author studies two pencils of cubic curves that are the result of certain constructions in the triangle plane. The two pencils contain nearly all the important special cubics, for example the Darboux cubic, the 17-point cubic (also known as Thomson's cubic), the Neuberg cubic, and the Lucas cubic.
