The paper treats the problem on a homogeneous shear turbulent flow passing an obstacle. The vorticity method, rapid distortion theory and a simple Reynolds stress model are used. It is shown that the effect of streamline curvature in the outer region of the obstacle, compared with the effect produced by the irrotational strain motion, is of the second order. Besides this, the preexisting shearing motion has significant effect on turbulent structures. Therefore, when turbulence over the obstacle is studied, the effects of the upwind mean shear and initial anisotropy on the changes of turbulence quantities must be taken into consideration.
