This study presents a three-dimensional analysis of puddle formation and flow conditions for molten metal in the puddle for single-roll rapid solidification processes. The main effort is to extend the computational SOLA-VOF scheme to the three-dimensional case; the schema is able to treat transient fluid flow problems with evolutional free boundaries.
