    The influence of external magnetic and electric fields on a laminar flow of fluid in a channel is investigated by computational techniques. The fluid is considered viscous and with a finite electrical conductivity. The relevant MHD equations are solved numerically by a general two-dimensional code applied to the channel flow. The obtained results have a direct application in electromagnetic pumps and electromagnetic brakes.
