This paper exhibits three classes of Riemannian manifolds which cannot be leaves of a codimension one \(C^0\)-foliation of a compact manifold. A notion of entropy of an open Riemannian manifold is introduced and it is shown that the entropy must be zero for codimension one foliations or for non-linear growth leaves in \(C^1\)-foliations of any codimension: it is then shown that there are manifolds of positive entropy.
