An rcf-matrix (where rcf stands for row-column-finite) is an infinite matrix where each row and each column contains only finitely nonzero elements. By using compactness arguments of a model-theoretic character, a transfer theorem is proved about the solvability of a system of linear equations and polynomial inequalities over an uncountable field. Results on the similarity of sets or rcf-matrices over uncountable fields are also given.
