The author studies the boundedness of a special class of integral operators in Hilbert space. A simple necessary condition is given for the considered operator to be a Carleman type operator. By studying the inverse of the integral operator the author provides a new method for the inversion of an integral equation of Carleman type. The theory presented is illustrated by two examples.
