A completely regular space with a uniform base is presented (hence a space with a point-countable base), i.e. an open-compact image of a metric space, which admits no point-countable \(k\)-network of closed sets. This answers a question raised by \textit{G. Gruenhage}, \textit{E. Michael} and \textit{Y. Tanaka} [Pac. J. Math. 113, 303-332 (1984; Zbl 0561.54016)].
