Different characterizations of fixed modes for decentralized control systems are compared. The equivalence between two matrix rank conditions for a family of matrices is proved. The result is used to show that the characterization of fixed modes for decentralized control systems in terms of remanant zeros and the characterization in terms of transmission zeros is equivalent in the general case.
