For a compact locally symmetric rank one space of even dimension the author introduces Gamma factors which symmetrize the functional equations for the corresponding generalized Selberg zeta functions. He expresses these in terms of multiple Gamma functions and from this obtains a simple proof for the functional equation of Ruelles' zeta function in case of real hyperbolic space.
