The authors prove a billiard ball problem posed by Schoenberg in Euclidean \(E^n\) for \(n=3\) and 4. They use methods from the geometry of numbers, in particular covering radii and the theory of view obstruction problems. They investigate mainly rational subspaces and hence obtain Markoff type chains of related isolated extreme values.
