For the general theory of association schemes the authors refer to \textit{E. Bannai} and \textit{T. Ito} [Algebraic combinatorics. I: Association schemes (1984; Zbl 0555.05019)]. In this article they show how to construct association schemes of symmetric matrices over a field of characteristic 2, and discuss various properties of them, such as imprimitivity, association subschemes and related quotient association schemes.
