The paper is intended to present an iterative method for the solution of nonlinear equations. This method consist in combining a direct search method and a damped approximate Newton method in order to avoid the computation of the Jacobian. The obtained hybrid method (called switching-method, due to the fact that at each iteration just one of the above mentioned iterative schemes is selected) shows a quadratic global convergence. Numerical results are also given.
