The canonical transformations are studied in the case when the Hessian of the Lagrange function is degenerate. The problem of correspondence between Lagrange and Hamilton description is analyzed, and the conditions guaranteeing the existence of the Lagrangian (defined up to the total derivative with respect to time by using the equations of motion) are obtained.
