The paper analyzes the structure of the solutions of the linearized system of equations describing the interaction of an electromagnetic field with an inhomogeneous elastic medium [see e.g., \textit{A. C. Eringen} and \textit{G. A. Maugin}, Electrodynamics of continua. I, II (Springer, Berlin, 1990)]. The main result of the paper is the solution of this system in terms of generalized functions.
