The paper studies subfactors resulting from commuting squares [as introduced by \textit{S. Popa}, Adv. Math. 50, 27-48 (1983; Zbl 0545.46041)] corresponding to the so-called ``vertex model''. The main result is the computation of the principal graphs of these subfactors.
