A novel type of 2-D cascade-parallel adaptive infinite impulse response (IIR) filters are proposed. An efficient adaptive algorithm based on the concept of back-propagation is developed. Some applications of this type of 2-D adaptive IIR filters in 2-D system identification and noise reduction in an image are presented. The considerations are illustrated by numerical examples.
