The paper aims to derive an effective equation for the light transmission in arrays of parallel carbon nanotubes, assuming that the distance between them is much larger than the diameter of the tubes. Starting from the Maxwell's equations and an expression for the electric current in the tubes, the authors derive an equation which is a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with multiple higher-order nonlinear terms. Numerical simulations reveal a possibility of self-focusing of pulses with the super-Gaussian shape launched into the system.
