The authors analyse a stochastic collocation method for solving the second-order wave equation in heterogeneous media with piecewise smooth random wave speed in the non-overlapping subdomains. Full and sparse tensor products of orthogonal polynomials are considered and error estimates as a function of the number of collocation points are developed. In general, the convergence rate is shown to be algebraic. Some numerical results are given.
