Enumeration of tropes (Q1940356)

Let \(S\) be a surface of degree \(d\) in \(\mathbb{P}^3\). A \(k\)-trope is a curve \(C\) of degree \(k\) in a plane tangent to \(S\) along \(C\). For any pair \((d,k)\) the author describes the degree of the locus of surfaces of degree \(d\) with a \(k\)-trope vis intersection theory. The author includes Maple code computing the formulas as an appendix. The paper finishes by extending the work to hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb{P}^4\) cut by planes and by suggesting that these numbers might fit into a generating series in an analogous way to the generating functions in quantum cohomology counting singular rational curves in mirror symmetry.
