The paper studies the joint estimation of absorption and phase of a sample from Fresnel diffraction intensity patterns using coherent x-ray beams. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear ill-posed operator equation and is solved approximately by Tikhonov regularization with a joint sparsity penalization term for the wavelet coefficients of the unknown absorption and the phase images.
