This is a short survey article on error-correcting algebraic geometric codes and some of their applications. After describing the construction of algebraic geometric codes, the author shows briefly their applications to (i) quantum error-correcting codes via the Calderbank-Shor-Steane Theorem; the secret sharing schemes via the Cramer method; and (ii) the construction of binary codes -linear or not- with good parameters, via the Leung-Ling-Xing Theorem.
