Front dynamics in heterogeneous diffusive media (Q1957100)

Specific bistable reaction-diffusion systems are considered. These systems have stable traveling front solution in homogeneous media. It is introduced a simple heterogeneity in these systems and presented four different front dynamics of PDE systems. The PDE dynamics are reduced to finite-dimensional ODE systems on a center manifold and the mathematical mechanism for producing the four types of response in the PDE systems using finite-dimensional ODE systems are presented.
