The authors present a simple mathematical model for design of extrusion dies appropriate for thin solid sections. In any design the ultimate goal is to eliminate distortions such as bending and twisting of the final product. Here the authors develop a method to predict the required bearing surface length that eliminates the nonuniform die exit flow rate. Asymptotic analysis has been used as the die opening is assumed to be long and slender. Some die design examples are discussed.
