The Ganea fibrations are applied to Lyusternik-Shnirel'man category. Three distinct definitions of the Ganea fibrations are given: the cofibre-fibre definition (the original definition of Ganea), the fat-wedge definition (introduced by Gilbert) and the fibre-join definition of Doeraene. These definitions are shown to be equivalent. In this paper, the author presents short and direct proofs of the equivalence of the three definitions. He also shows that two definitions dualize to equivalent definitions of cocategory.
