The authors discuss within a geometric framework the solutions of the generalized d'Alembert equation \(\partial^n \log f/\partial x_1\cdots\partial x_n=0\). The main result is that the set of solutions of this equation contains more functions than those representable by the classical formula \(f_1(x_2,\dots,x_n)\cdots\) \(f_n(x_1,\dots,x_{n-1})\).
