By applying the reviewer's method from [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 192, No. 3, 1034-1035 (1995; Zbl 0829.26013)], the author proves the following inequality, which is a generalization of a result of Alzer: \[ {n+k\over n+m+k}< \Biggl({1\over n} \sum^{n+k}_{i= k+1} i^r\Biggl/{1\over n+m} \sum^{n+ m+k}_{i= k+1} i^r\Biggr)^{1/r}. \]
