Sufficient conditions in terms of eigenvalues of auxiliary matrices are obtained for the absolute exponential stability of a class of nonlinear nonautonomous delay-differential systems with sufficiently small deviations of the argument. These conditions help to avoid the analysis of quasipolynomials and to accommodate time-dependent and distributed delays. The present work may be viewed as the further development of the work due to the first author [IEEE Trans. Autom. Control 39, No. 12, 2481-2484 (1994; Zbl 0811.93051)].
