Two \(m\times n\) matrices \(A\) and \(B\) over a ring \(R\) are called equivalent if \(B=PAQ\) for some \(P\in GL_m(R)\) and \(Q\in GL_n(R)\). The authors of this paper show that every matrix over a Dedekind domain is equivalent to a direct sum of matrices \(A=(a_{i,j})\) with \(a_{i,j}=0\) when \(j>i+1\).
