Let \(\mathcal F\) denote the class of all groups that are the set theoretic union of their nonabelian simple subgroups. Theorem A. Let \(G\) be a periodic locally graded \(\mathcal F\)-group. Then \(G\) is simple. Theorem C. There is a characteristically simple, directly indecomposable \(\mathcal F\)-group, which is not simple.
