This paper deals with the subanalytic properties of the distance function \(d\) defined on a manifold with a sub-Riemannian structure \((\Delta, g)\). The author's main result is to show that \(d\) is subanalytic or subanalytic far away from the diagonal according as the distribution is of degree 2 or \(\Delta^2\) is fat. The paper includes a good review of several known related results.
