A new method for calculating a discrete vector potential for a solenoidal vector field in Raviart-Thomas finite element space is developed. It can be profitably employed if multilevel data structures are available. With minimum computational effort, this new gauging algorithm yields vector potentials whose \(L^2\)-norm does not severely blow up. This new approach is compared with the widely used co-tree gauging.
