For certain elliptic partial differential equations on unbounded domains, it is possible to construct exact non-reflecting boundary conditions in terms of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann mapping. In this paper the authors construct a class of local approximations to this mapping. They prove the stability of the methods, and they derive error bounds.
