First, the paper presents some experimental results for confined specimens of sand-lime mortar. On this basis, the authors obtain constitutive parameters of Drucker-Prager yield surface and of the hardening compression cap. The authors also perform a finite element analysis of the problem. Following Maier's theory, they construct a piecewise linear approximation to the yield surface of mortar joint under axial thrust and bending moment. Finally, using a complete finite element model of arch, the authors analyse the shakedown of masonry arch under variable loading.
