An analytical-numerical method for modeling time-dependent wave fields in layered media (Q1975757)

The authors consider a one-dimensional boundary value problem for the wave equation describing pulse propagation in layered media. By the imbedding method, this problem is reformulated as an initial value problem. The proposed algorithm is based on the piecewise approximation of the irregularities of the medium by functions that admit a analytical solution of the problem and an level-by-level analytical solution of the equations of the imbedding method that are causal in time and space.
