    The author constructs asymptotic approximations of the solution to the transport equation for a homogeneous plane layer in terms of a parameter \(\varepsilon\) (the inverse of the optical thickness of the layer). In the case when scattering indicatrix and radiation-source term are smooth, formulas and equations are obtained for the regular components of these approximations both for a medium with strong absorption and for a scattering-dominated medium. A theoretical estimate of the accuracy of the asymptotic approximations is established.
